Online News and Features
News article writing is a general term for the type of written article that is published on the news section of a newspaper or news magazine. News article writing is generally a mixture of news analysis, comment, and reporting about events or other topics pertaining to your interest. Generally, this field of journalism offers feature articles and news stories about current affairs, people, places, and topical issues pertaining to your particular niche.
The scope and quality of this type of article depend upon your assignment and the editor who are assigned to that assignment. Some news items are geared more towards breaking or sensational news. Other news items are more educational in nature and provide information on local activities, cultural events, or happenings around town or area. And yet other news items are purely informative in their focus and reporting. Regardless, of assignment, a news article should be informative, interesting, and relevant to your readership.
NEWS is an acronym for news reports and features that are published on the newspaper’s sports page. Sports stories can also be published in news magazines such as the Sunday Sports Supplement along with local chamber of commerce events, festivals, and school events. But often times the news items that are published on the sports page and appear on the front page of the paper are not really news in and of themselves. Instead, they are sports oriented articles that discuss the events of the day and offer context for those events and the teams participating in them. Those are the type of news items you might see on the front page of the local newspaper.
Additionally, TODAY is also commonly referred to as news with a twist, taking in much of the same subject matter as the previously mentioned but focusing more on the non-sports variety of news. This type of news item appears more often on the news section of a TV station or network rather than the sports page of the paper. It is often accompanied by local or world news in addition to it. This type of article will feature a piece of breaking news, often leading in that direction with breaking reports, photos, or video from the event or the day’s proceedings.
JUST WHAT IS NISSED? While the term “news” refers to something that is actually reported on through traditional print media, the “nt” in news stands for “nothing”, denoting a blank page. For print media, this normally means a paltry one-page spread, while the internet refers to pages that feature only text, making it impossible to fit much information into a single space. The net often utilizes images, videos, podcasts, or social networking components to allow users to interact with the news while browsing. Websites with only text are often referred to as “e-papers” and serve mainly as a means of delivering content to users while online.
WHY DO USENET USERS ADD HIPTHIRTS? Newsgroups are communities that have come together to share a common interest or theme, generally a topical topic. The advent of the Usenet in the early 1980s gave rise to specialized news groups dedicated to particular topics. Today, newsgroups can discuss practically anything, including art, music, cars, politics, religion, and nearly every other imaginable subject. Newsgroups can also be used to promote businesses and organizations, especially for small businesses which may not have the ability to invest in print media or the time to develop a devoted readership.
